MAPLE Applauds EPA for Protecting New Jersey and Pennsylvania from Pollution

On Halloween,  the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a life-saving rule to protect the health of the residents of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The EPA has granted New Jersey’s Section 125 petition under the Clean Air Act and is requiring that the GenOn Portland Generating Station reduce its harmful sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions over the next three years.

Documentary for Action!

Hello,

My name is Andy Myers and I'm with the nonprofit Working Films which connects documentary film to activism. I am currently working on the engagement campaign for the documentary Dirty Business which is an investigative report that exposes clean coal for the myth that it is while showcasing the atrocities of coal mining and the potentials of renewable energy.

Please join us for these upcoming community meetings in Bangor, PA!

Dear friends,
How about joining MAPLE (Multi-state Alliance to Promote Lasting Energy), on October 22nd, for a story telling training and day of action? We will be discussing the best way to tell our personal stories about being impacted by coal and how to talk to other community members about our efforts to shut down the Portland Plant. We'll then take what we learned out into Bangor to collect petition signatures that will later be delivered directly to GenOn.

Residents Protest GenOn’s Portland Generating Station as Part of 350’s Moving Planet

"On September 24th, 2011, I joined with people all over the world to call on governments and corporations to leave dirty fuels like coal and oil behind in favor of clean, renewable energy.

As events were taking place in hundreds of countries and thousands of cities, I stood on the side of a country road in front of the GenOn-owned Portland Generating Station with over 40 people from surrounding communities.

Thank you for your support!

Dear members,
Your presence at our "Walk away from coal" event last Saturday made possible for us to send a very important message to GenOn. Together, we were able to show them that there are concerned citizens who are engaged in making all the possible efforts to shut that plant down. Thank you so much for joining us!
The main page of our community features a great new video about the Portland plant! Make sure to check it out: http://www.portlandcoal.com/

March for Clean Air

Welcome to the Portland Plant community forum - how to get involved

Hi,

Welcome to the Portland Generating Station Community Forum!

The Portland Coal Plant, owned by Texas based GenOn, is polluting the air, land and water of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and causing 30 premature deaths and hundreds of asthma attacks every year.  The plant is so dirty that the state of New Jersey is suing the facility because of the air pollution that is blown across the Delaware River.
