Residents presented 543 petitions to Bangor Pa. Borough Council on December 12, 2011 requesting that GenOn Portland Generating Station close down it operation.  Bangor is the site of coal ash dump.  If GenOn elects to install  scrubbers as required by the October EPA order to lower its permitted SO2 emissions by 81 percent withing three years, the  quantity and toxicity of the coal ash will increase.  Kudos to 22 year old Krista Tamaro for leading the presentation and to the petitionors who support the effort.
